Relics in the Orthodox Church: Why Do We Have Them?
What are relics and why do many Orthodox Churches have them? Relics are a piece of the bone of a sanctified person – a saint. Orthodox Christians believe that a persons physical body can be the receptacle of, and be effected by, God’s grace. Think of the story of Moses who, after an extended time of getting with God on the Mount, came down with a shining face – so bright that the Israelites could not look at him!
